    How I Met Your Mother is an american sitcom created in 2005 by Craig Thomas and Caster Bays. The series was inspired on Thomas and Bays’ idea to write about their friends and the stupid things they did in New York, so they made the characters based on themselves: Bays as Ted Mosby, Thomas and his wife as Marshall and Lily, and Robin and Barney representing his friends.
    Throughout the episodes, Ted appears in the year of 2030 telling his daughter and son the story of how he met their mother, recounting all the events that led to that. Set in Manhattan, it shows flashbacks of the social and romantic lives of Ted and his friends Marshall, Lily, Barney and Robin since the year of 2005.
    It begins with Ted as a single architect living with his two best friends that he met during college: Marshall – a law student – and Lily – a kindergarten teacher and aspiring artist – who are dating for 9 years, planning to get married. Their engagement makes Ted feel lonely and wishing to find his soulmate, so he decide to have a wedding too, contradicting the idea of Barney, his self-appointed best friend who is a womanizer that obviously doesn’t approve the idea of marriage, preferring to stay single and partying until the end of his life. At the same time, Ted meets Robin – a journalist of a New York cable news channel – at the MacLaren’s bar near his apartment and quickly falls in love with her. However, Robin doesn’t want to take the risk of jeopardizing her career by rushing into a serious relationship, so the two end up having an unsettled and complicated friendship.
    A lot of things happen along the show, changing the whole plot all the time, bringing funny and emotional stories that can make us laugh out loud or either cry a river, no matter how old we are. And this makes How I Met Your Mother one of the most popular series ever known, one of the best comedies ever, which leads it to be a critical success with positive reviews. It has won five Emmy Awards, including a nomination for “Outstanding Comedy Series”, and the People’s Choice Awards 2012 for Best TV Network Comedy.
    How I Met Your Mother is one of my favorite sitcoms because it involves romantic, emotional and moral situations between friends, which can make you think about important things in life, and is still very, very funny – I mean, sometimes while watching an episode I had to pause it because I couldn’t stop laughing. What would you say if I said this show once made me get some things right in my life? – Also, you can identify yourself or even your friends in one of the characters, like I can see myself in Ted – an architect with a complicated love life – and my best girl friend and her boyfriend as Lily and Marshall – a perfect couple.
